Melt is a personal project by award winning photographer Simon Harsent. When he approached us with his idea of designing a book documenting the journey of icebergs in Newfoundland, we knew that there was something special in it. Harsent then spent months shooting these phenomenal images that are simply out of this world.
The initial idea for the book design came from Harsent who wanted to explore the usage of type infused with the images as a narration. However, once we saw the rough proofs of the images, it was clear that they were too captivating to have other elements distract us from the purity of the visuals. We decided against using ink on the cover and went with debossing a custom logotype that we created for the book and his exhibitions.
We are extremely excited that this book has been accepted into the PDN 2010 annual, and also scored a
In-Book nomination in D&AD 2010 under the book design/photography section.
